Fire cupping is an ancient Traditional Chinese Medical technique that utilizes a glass cup, a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol and lit on fire. The lit cotton ball is inserted into the cup, removed, and then the cup is quickly placed directly onto the skin of the patient. The heat creates a vacuum effect, drawing the skin into the cup and promoting blood flow and healing. Over the years, the materials used for cupping have evolved from animal horns and bamboo to modern glass and silicone cups.
